In Scandinavia, we have always built with wood. We shape and form the majestic northern trees into groundbreaking works of utility and art. And just like the generations before us, we have found something in natural wood that we cannot find anywhere else. A warmth. A depth. A timelessness.
That's why we only use real wood* for our audio products. We attach great importance to our wood processing and only work with the best and most responsible suppliers.
The wood we use for Bang & Olufsen products is predominantly sourced from Northern Europe. Oak is one of our favourites as it fits well with Scandinavian minimalist design and can be treated in a variety of ways to create very different looks.
In the studio we can use any type of wood. We even have examples of customers supplying us with their own wood - one example was wood from a special tree in a customer's family garden. Of course, we always keep sustainability in mind and do not use types of wood that are threatened due to overuse.
Our wood is ethically sourced. It is worked and shaped by skilled hands to reveal its natural beauty. When sourcing wood, we have strict policies to ensure we do not use materials linked to deforestation in the Amazon or sensitive biodiversity areas that are internationally or locally protected.
Textiles & Leather

Our fabrics are woven and knitted with precision, designed for optimal clarity and hand-finished in every detail. We use the richness, complexity and warmth of wool in many of our products, working with Kvadrat, one of the most iconic brands in the world of textiles.
Kvadrat is a Danish company known for exclusive fabrics for the furniture industry as well as interior elements such as curtains and cushions.
Basically, all our fabrics are specifically developed with acoustic transparency in mind. We would never compromise acoustic performance, so it is a balancing act to develop fabrics that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Our specially developed fabric line from Kvadrat is called Audio Line. All Kvadrat colors produced for Bang & Olufsen are made exclusively for Bang & Olufsen.
At Bang & Olufsen, we also work with a German supplier who meets our high standards for acoustic sound clarity and enables fabric printing. That's why we can offer any color or pattern, for example for the Beosound A9 .

At Bang & Olufsen, we follow strict animal welfare policies. We only source animal hides, including leather, from farms that implement the Five Freedoms:

With our commitment to responsible craftsmanship, we make the most of every piece of leather, ensuring that each hide is used to its full potential as much as possible.
Aluminum and Factory 5
Our renowned aluminum plant, Factory 5, is based on more than 50 years of craftsmanship experience. It was built in 1971 and expanded (doubled in size) in 1978. Factory 5 combines all processes under one roof - turning, polishing, sandblasting, bead blasting, milling, deburring, anodizing (including coloring).
Our anodizing facility offers unparalleled surface craftsmanship with unlimited color options. Our Factory 5 is equipped with advanced machinery and customized robot cells for the highest possible quality in aluminum machining. Laser cutting and laser engraving machines offer customized and unique solutions.
At Bang & Olufsen's aluminium factory, we only use the highest quality aluminium to avoid impurities in the alloy and to meet our high standards for a bright and fine finish. B&O is strongly committed to the principle of durability and the circular economy. An important example of this is our increasing use of recycled aluminium in our products to reduce our environmental impact. While we continue to use the highest purity aluminium, we aim to use at least 50% recycled aluminium in our products by 2030.
Our unique feature in color anodizing is our color spraying process. We don't immerse in a large color bath. A large color bath would require hundreds of gallons of water to clean between colors, and when immersing in a large color bath, the coloring is often not consistent from the first piece to the last. Instead, we can create a unique color recipe for each individual piece we need to color and spray it on. This ensures consistent coloring, and we can change colors in the anodizing line up to six times per hour.
We use all available dyes and combine them to create virtually any color you want. In Factory 5 we can "double anodize," which means applying two colors to one workpiece.
